I have to admit that I'd begun to lose some faith in the American people. Not in their ability to produce or fight for their country, but in their political intellect. With this past election season and the aura of **CHANGE** all around, it seemed that big government was in and the American Dream, a self-driven non-government funded chance at the American Dream, was out. But alas, it seems that we have begun to take the rose-colored lenses off and started to pay attention again.
At the beginning of this whole healthcare debate (the current one), Americans seemed to be right on board. "Obama is bringing change and that means to our healthcare system too! He's right...let's take the profits out of healthcare. Then, we'll be left with the same quality of healthcare but we can provide it to everyone!" This statement is in line with the 70-75% approval rating for the current healthcare proposal that coincided with the beginning of this debate. But then a strange thing happened--people began to pay attention. They began to look through the weak, superficial logic of the Democrats' healthcare argument and say, "Hey, maybe this really isn't the right step for us to be taking". I couldn't agree more.
In the latest polls, support for the current healthcare proposal is slipping dramatically, all the way down to below 50%. People don't want this healthcare proposal. President Obama gave us the bailouts and it remains to be seen how well those will work...and who knows how long we'll be waiting. Not much of that money has even walked out the door and into the hands of the people yet...what makes us think that healthcare will be some quick fix? Sure, healthcare has its problems but this plan fails to address some of the major core issues at hand, such as tort reform and cost transparency. The American people are seeing that and demanding something different. And it's good to see that--blind hope for bad change isn't the hope-change combo for which we were looking.
